The Sun Riders are a fictional superhero team with three members: Super Quasar, the leader of the Sun Riders who performs Solar Helmet Hot Shot, an attack which he shoots a beam of solar energy from his helmet's visors; Aurora Six is the ravishing female of the group that uses the Sun Gun, a weapon that shoots sun beams that stuns her enemies in a main attack called Sun Gun Dazzle Stun; and Johnny Sunspot is the kid sidekick genius, who builds all of the team's weapons and wields special gloves that create dark energy orbs in an attack called Black Hole Blackoutt, later Black Hole Barrage in his second appearance. When they join hands, the Sun Riders perform Super Solar Strike, a destructive team attack that's similar to a solar flare.

The Sun Riders are known to ride on their Sun Cycles, and their own robot is called the Nebutron, an orb-like Super Robot that is heavily armed. They have their television series, of which Chiro is an avid fan. However, they wanted to stop pretending, and in exchange for real power, joined the Skeleton King in the promise of destroying Chiro and the Monkey Team to make their dreams come true. When the Sun Riders shown refusal to serve the Skeleton King's evil plot as repayment for him making their powers real in their signature appearance, a mere glance from him caused them to age at an alarming, near-fatal rate until they submitted to his will.

They later return in season 2, in the episode The Sun Riders Return, apparently reformed and with a more powerful Nebutron ship - which they later sacrifice for the good of others. They aged once the Skeleton King is present, right next to Chiro. Aurora Six appeared as an aspect of the Dreamlands in a later episode, In the Grip of Evil, and in the last scene of Soul of Evil. The Sun Riders ware last seen on screen as three the allies that will aid the Hyperforce in the last battle against the resurrected Skeleton King and his army of the undead.

Trivia

  • Each  of the Sun Riders names are a pun on a part of the actual sun itself: Super Quasar after the explosion from which stars like the sun are born, Aurora Six after the light given off from the sun (most obvious during the dawn or a solar eclipse), and Johnny Sunspot after a temporary blot of darkness that appears and disappears from the sun's surface on account of magnetic pulses.
  • The logo of their show is written in English, yet has real Japanese kanji printed above the title, specifically the symbols for the phrase "Taiyō Kishu" (太陽騎手) which translates to literally "Sun Riders" but also translates to "Sun Jockeys" or "Sun Horsemen," This no doubt is a bit of an unintentional yet fitting pun, for in certain places like America, a motorcycle the Sun Riders' main form of transport when not using the Nebutron, is sometimes called a steel horse.
